: Battle Systematics :
Base HP-
Level 1-2 = 10 HPLevel 3-10 = 20 HPLevel 11+ = 2x Level The Base HP is the amount of HP a Pokemon will have if it has not been changed due to an item or the shrines, or through another method. Pokemon level 1 and 2 only have 10 HP, while 3-10 have 20 HP. Above that the HP is always double the Pokemon's level.
Base Damage-Level 1 = 1Level 2 = 2Level 3-10 = 3Level 11-24 = 5Level 25-44 = 8Level 45-64 = 10Level 65-84 = 15Level 85-100 = 20 The base damage is the damage one Pokemon will do to another before stat changes, extra damage, move power, special states, and level differences are taken into consideration.
Level Differences-Lower Leveled Pokemon- Inflicts Base DamageHigher Leveled Pokemon- Inflicts Base Damage + Difference between levelsSame Leveled Pokemon- Inflicts Base Damage For this, all you must keep in mind is that the lower-leveled Pokemon will do only the base damage. However, the higher-leveled Pokemon will do the base damage PLUS the difference between levels. If both Pokemon are the same level, they both do the base damage.
Stat Changes- Stat Changes to Your Pokemon:Defense+ = Subtract the amount from the Base Damage if opponent used a Physical attackDefense- = Add the amount to the Base Damage if opponent used a Physical attackSpecial Defense+ = Subtract the amount from the Base Damage if opponent used a Special attackSpecial Defense- = Add the amount to the Base Damage if opponent used a Special attackStat Changes to Opponent Pokemon:Attack+ = Add the amount to the Base Damage if opponent uses a Physical AttackAttack- = Subtract the amount from the Base Damage if opponent uses a Physical AttackSpecial Attack+ = Add the amount to the Base Damage if opponent uses a Special AttackSpecial Attack- = Subtract the amount from the Base Damage if opponent uses a Special Attack Note that since you figure the damage your own Pokemon takes, only your Defense and the opponent's Attack stats are relevant to you. This is always true. Your Attack and your opponent's defense will only determine how much damage you should be inflicting on them.
Move Power-Base Damage + Attack Power Rating This is fairly simple. All Attacks have a 'Power Rating' on Laokia. This is a number that ranges from 0 to 5 (or higher for Pokemon above level 50), with zero having no effect on the base damage, and five having the greatest effect. A move with a rating of 0 still does damage; it just does not give an increase to the base damage. Note that Move Power does not affect Pokemon below level 20.
Special States- Some Pokemon that have a special state (at the moment, these are: Angel/Demon/Shadow/Crystal/Marine) have some automatic stat boosts. These are described in the Special Pokemon description thread, where each state is described in detail. These stat boosts are automatic, and for easy memory should be placed within the battle stats of each of these Pokemon. They affect the base damage in the same way that regular Stat Changes do. Special States information can be found HERE.
Extra Damage-Critical Hit= Damage is doubledSuper-Effective Attack= Damage is doubledNot Very Effective Attack= Damage is halvedSTAB~ Same-Type Attack= Damage multiplied by 1.5Environmental Hazards= Add 1-10 damage, depending on severity Obviously, whether or not an attack was a critical hit is up to the one receiving the damage. However, these should happen occasionally, especially if the attack used has a high critical-hit ratio, or the opponent has used a Dire Hit, or some other critical-hit boosting item/attack. 'Super Effective' and 'Not Very Effective' are common Pokemon knowledge. Just check a Type Matchup chart to know these. Same-Type attacks are obvious; If the opponent used an attack of which the type matched it's type, the damage done to your Pokemon increases, and vice versa.
Environmental hazards are unique; You do not have to use them at all. They are such things as your Pokemon hitting a tree, slamming into a rock, falling into a lake, etc. They are mainly used when the battle is desired to be over more quickly.
So, basically, the damage done to your Pokemon should be calculated with this simple formula:
Base Damage x STAB x Effectiveness (+ Level Difference if opponent is higher leveled) +/- Stat Changes + Attack Power Rating = Damage Received
If the attack was a Critical Hit, that is applied after all other damage is calculated.
Effectiveness is whether an attack is Super Effective (x2) or Not Very Effective (x0.5). Note that if an attack is NOT effective at all, no damage will be done, regardless of other factors, except environmental damage.
Attacks CANNOT do negative damage. If your damage is calculated to be 0 or NEGATIVE for an attack that should have an effect (I.E. everything but attacks that have no effect on a certain Pokemon), then the damage done is .5 or 1 (depending on the preference of the mod at the time).
For Example:
Lv. 11 Pikachu -VS- Lv. 7 Squirtle Squirtle used Withdraw, Defense +1 Pikachu uses Thundershock Thundershock is a Special Attack, so raised Defense does not affect damage
5x1.5x2+4+4 = 23 damage Squirtle HP- 20 Squirtle KO'd
Lv. 8 Scyther -VS- Lv. 8 Charmander Scyther uses Bug Buzz Charmander uses Flare Blitz
Scyther's Attack- 3x1.5x0.5+5 = 7 damage Charmander HP- 13/20
Charmander's Attack- 3x1.5x2+5 = 14 damage Scyther HP- 6/20

: Breakdown :Every Pokemon has a set of stats that will be given to you when you receive it. In this set of stats, there is a section called 'Battle Stats'. Simply copy & paste that code into your post when a battle starts. Adversely, if you use one of the table stat setups, you can just copy & paste the entire code.
After the initial post, you must just post the Pokemon's current changeable statistics in an easily found place throughout the battle. Where you place it in your posts is up to you; However, the top or bottom of your post is recommended. Changeable Statistics are considered to be your Pokemon's HP, Stat Changes, and Status Effects.
You figure out how much damage YOUR Pokemon takes; your opponent will do the same for their Pokemon. This means that you also decide whether or not your Pokemon was hit by the opponent's attack. This is limited though, as you can only dodge a certain number of times in each battle.Dodge System-Pokemon have a limited number of dodges, depending on what kind of battle they are in, and if Accuracy or Evasiveness has changed.
Wild Pokemon Battle Both Pokemon have only ONE dodge.
Trainer Battle Both Pokemon have TWO dodges.
Gym Battle Both Pokemon have THREE dodges.
Naturally, add a dodge for each level your opponent has decreased Accuracy, or you have increased Evasiveness. Subtract a dodge for each level your opponent has increased Accuracy, or you have decreased Evasiveness. Special Gym/Contest Rules-Every Gym has it's own rules for battling. Some just follow this system, but those that do not will explain their system. Leveling up your Pokemon at least a few levels above those of the Gym Leaders' would make challenging them much easier and faster, so it is wise to train before doing so. The same goes for contests. Experience System-Pokemon gain experience from defeating enemies for the most part. Here is how the Experience System works: Pokemon require EXP equal to their current level to level up. Against a WILD Pokemon, Pokemon gain EXP equal to the level of their opponent(s). Against a TRAINER, Pokemon gain EXP 1.5x the level of their opponent(s). Against a GYM LEADER, TOP COORDINATOR, TOP RANGER, or POLICE OFFICER, Pokemon gain EXP 2x the level of their opponent(s). Against the ELITE FOUR, GRAND FESTIVAL COMPETITORS, HEAD RANGERS, or COUNCIL OF ELDERS, Pokemon gain EXP 2.5x the level of their opponent(s). Against a LEGENDARY, Pokemon gain EXP 3x the level of their opponent. In a DOUBLE, TRIPLE, etc. battle, Pokemon gain EXP from all of their opponents.
Besides battles, there are other ways to gain experience and levels. Your Pokemon can gain experience, or even advance a level, if your character helps another out. It can be a person or even a wild Pokemon. Helping a plot character will earn your character mass rewards. Characters can also train their Pokemon once per AREA, or once per WEEK. The more creative your training method, the more EXP or levels will be earned; The more often you train, however, the less EXP and levels will be earned. Rare candies will immediately level the Pokemon it was used on up by one. Your character can also visit one of the shrines in the 'Other Places' category. The Umbreon shrine may level up your Pokemon, while the Espeon shine may grant you some Rare Candies.
Speed System-Base Speed of a Pokemon has no in-battle effects, besides offering creative license while role-playing. The higher a Pokemon's Speed stat becomes, the lower chance of the opponent landing a Critical Hit. The lower a Pokemon's Speed stat becomes, the higher chance of the opponent landing a Critical Hit.
Pokemon can normally use 1 Offensive and 1 Defensive attack per turn in a battle, however changes in Speed will affect the amount of attacks you Pokemon can use in a turn. +3 Speed = 1 More Defensive Attack Per Turn +5 Speed = 1 More Offensive Attack Per Turn -3 Speed = Only 1 Attack Per Turn -5 Speed = Only 1 Attack Every Other Turn
And here is where I now choose to slip the secret word. This is the THIRD word. Got it? Pass. There! That's it! Yes, it DOES change every now and then. Whenever my insanity so chooses.Good luck with that!

Example Battle:The following is an example battle. It is similar to one your character may be in soon after starting their journey. This is to help show the proper way to follow this battle system. I will be using a fictional trainer and his Pokemon, and a fictional wild Pokemon for an opponent. The Trainer chose a Cyndaquil ( ), and is fighting a Budew ( ). I will separate the theoretical 'posts' with different colors; Red for the Trainer and Green for the Wild Budew. Matt walked out of Nirven Town and into Route One, his new partner following by his side. He could hardly believe that his journey was finally beginning... or that he actually had his own Pokemon. The fiery mouse Pokemon wasn't much of a talker, but it was fiercely loyal to him. Besides, why would he want a Pokemon that spent all its time yapping anyway? There was so much more that could be seen if one were silent...
Some nearby bushes rattled as something moved through them... It was obviously not that big, judging by how little it moved the leaves on the bushes. A Budew emerged from the foliage a second later, looking up at the sky and not paying attention to much else. Of course, since the trainer was so much taller than the grass Pokemon, she saw him towering above her. Letting out a frightened squeak, the Pokemon used Growth to make herself appear more frightening.
Battle Stats
Type- Level- 4 Item- (None) Experience Points- 0/4
Ability- Poison Point ~Afflicts opponent Pokemon with a Poison condition 30% of the time when attacked directly~ Attacks- Absorb, Growth, Synthesis
HP- 20/20
(Special Attack +1)
"Oh, cool, a Budew! Cynder, use Tackle!" Matt commanded immediately, not even taking into account the Budew's boosted attack. With a sharp nod, the Cyndaquil rushed at the smaller Pokemon, trying to slam into it with his body.
Battle Stats
Type- Level- 6 Item- (None) Experience Points- 3/6
Ability- Blaze ~Multiplies power of Fire-type attacks by 1.5 when HP falls below 1.3 its maximum~ Attacks- Tackle, Leer, Smokescreen, Flare Blitz
HP- 20/20
HP- 15/20 (Special Attack +2)
The Budew couldn't move out of the way fast enough and was hit full force by the blow. The lightweight Pokemon was thrown backwards, but luckily landed in the bush rather than against a tree and was spared any additional damage. She shook the attack off and rose to her feet. Using growth again, she powered up her grass attack. Then she began to use Absorb, green orbs flying out to suck away the Cyndaquil's health.
HP- 17.5/20
The trainer almost laughed at the Budew. Even though the Pokemon had powered up its attack by raising its stats, it was STILL using a grass-type attack, which wasn't very effective against a fire type like Cyndaquil. "Tackle it again!" he commanded, and his Pokemon immediately obeyed, leaping at the Budew once more.
HP- 15/20 (Special Attack +3)
The Budew jumped neatly out of the way of the charging Cyndaquil. She took advantage of him being so close by using another Absorb. Then, she jumped back to a safer distance and began using Growth once more.
HP- 12.5/20 ~Critical Hit
Matt's jaw dropped in shock. The Absorb attack of the Budew's had just landed a Critical hit on his Pokemon! Now Cynder had less HP than the grass type! "Fine then! Cynder, use Leer, then Smokescreen to hide yourself!" the trainer commanded, deciding to take a leaf out of the Budew's book. Cyndaquil nodded in reply, and glowered at the small Pokemon, his eyes glowing bright red. Then, as he let his eyes fade back to their original color, he released a large cloud of smoke from his back which quickly covered their makeshift battlefield.
HP- 17/20 (Special Attack +4) (Defense -1) (Accuracy -1)
The Budew shuddered as her opponent leered at her, her defense lowering from her fright. She shook herself back to reality as the smoke settled over the area, using the opportunity to restore some of her health with Synthesis. Of course, it did not restore much, because the sun was blocked by the smokescreen. Then the Pokemon proceeded to use growth again.
HP- 12.5/20
Matt could no longer see his Cyndaquil, but he trusted his partner. "Alright, Cynder, Tackle!" he commanded again. The mouse complied, the smoke shifting slightly as he ran at the plant with all the speed he could muster.
HP- 10/20 (Special Attack +4) (Defense -1) (Accuracy -1)
The Budew knew her opponent was charging at her, but she could not tell from where. When she finally realized where the Cyndaquil was, it was too late. She slid backwards, hitting the tree and getting hurt slightly more than she normally would have. Not even bothering to use growth, she shot an Absorb at the fire-type, hoping to hit it while it was still close.
HP- 12.5/20
The Cyndaquil had already slipped back into the smoke, and easily dodged the attack. Matt was growing tired of the battle; He hadn't told Cynder to use a fire-type attack at first because he doubted the Budew could do much damage to the Cyndaquil, but he had already been proven wrong. No use in dragging out the fight. "Cynder! It's time! Use Flare Blitz!" Matt said, giving the command that the mouse had been waiting for. He smiled slightly, allowing the flames on his back to grow and cover his entire body. Then, he dashed at the Budew again, this time using a fiery tackle- Flare Blitz.
HP- 0/20 ~Fainted
The Budew knew before the Cyndaquil had ever hit her that the battle was over. Not only was the fire-type attack super effective, but it was also the same type attack as the Cyndaquil, which would give it an extra boost of power. She felt the burning pain as her opponent hit her, but it was blissfully short as she was knocked unconscious in a split-second.
Cynder gains 4 EXP! Cynder grew to level 7 with 1 EXP left over!
Matt hugged his Pokemon in celebration of their victory. Then he looked over at the unconscious form of the Budew. It was a strong Pokemon- being a grass-type, and a lower level, it had given his fire-type a run for his money. With a grin, Matt pulled an empty pokeball out of his pack and chucked it at the fainted soldier.
Well, I hope that was simple enough. If you still don't understand, ask one of the staff or senior members for help; As long as you are respectful and at least a little patient, they would be glad to help!
