Welcome to the Laokia Region!

Banner By Nyaa-Neko of Jenta

Welcome to the Laokia Region! Create a character, then start your journey in either Laokia or Aryll by getting a Pokemon from the lab, then travel across the region training and earning badges. Or, you could try a different approach and join the evil team, the Grim! Who knows, maybe you'll be called on to fight the forces of evil, or to do battle against the good-hearted. There have been some strange things happening lately though, things that threaten to throw the very balance of the region into chaos...

---

History:

To most, the origins of the regions are unknown, but some have been blessed with the knowledge. And, for better or for worse, history doea have a way of repeating itself...

A powerful Legend created the Laokia Region, long after many other regions came into existence. Laokia was at first devoid of sentient life, but the Legendary created Pokemon, unique to the region, and gave out a call that brought many more from far and wide, from all of the other regions, to the land, making it more diverse than any. But, it was still without humans, and it remained that way for years. After a while of the region exsisting away from human eyes, the Legendary Creator bought humans, ignorant to the Legend's actions, across the seas to the land. There the humans and Pokemon lived together in peace and harmony, and the Legendary Creator appointed an Umbreon and an Espeon to watch over the region, and even gave them special powers. However, all good things eventually come to an end.

A shipwreck, a chance happening that could easily have been a coincidence, brought a group of evil humans to Laokia. Whether another force was at work, or it really was a coincidence is uncertain, but the humans banded together and brought terror and destruction to the region. The balance was threatened, as was the fate of all Laokia. In a last effort to defeat the evil, Lord Umbreon and Lady Espeon used up the remainder of their powers to dispell the evil from Laokia, as well as to whipe away the terible humans' memories. With no power left, Umbreon and Espeon would have died there where they fell, but instead the Legendary Creator transformed them into statues, so they could steadily rebuild their energy throughout the years to come.

Another multitude of years spent in Peace, with a relative lack of evil, and then evil once again reached Laokia. This time it was in the form of a woman named Belladonna, and a small fleet of ships filled with her followers. The Grim had found Laokia, and threatened the balance once again. Knowing that the Region was in peril, the Legendary Creator called forth Apprentice-Professor Cassandra Tarei. The region needed a resident Professor, one who was good at heart and would do anything to protect the region, and Tarei was perfect for that task.

With Tarei, who soon becamea full-fledged Professor, a wave of good humans washed into Laokia, looking to explore the newly discovered region. The balance remained in-tact, but with the steadily growing evil, that could not last long.

---

Plot:

Each day the evil in Laokia, and even in neighboring Region Aryll, evil grows. The masterminds behind this evil have revealed themselves; The Demon Legend Akuma, and the Grim Leader Belladonna. Neither show any desire to end their reign of terror over the region, nor do they care that they are upsetting the balance and thus the very foundation of the region. Demon Pokemon have spread rapidly, and are now lurking everywhere, in both of the regions. Also, strange Pokemon dubbed as Shadow and Marine have been discovered, the cause of their abnormalties unknown. Yet, there are also the Angel Pokemon, which were created by another Legend, one who opposes Akuma and who is only known by the name Tenshi.

Rumor has it that the Grim are plotting to create a more perfect Demon Pokemon, one that is not feral and vicious towards them, but only towards their enemies. So far only Akuma himself can accomplish such a thing, the machines created by the Grim unable to harness enough of his power to create the Pokemon properly. If that is ther desing, then it is imperitive they be stopped, before an army of Grim controlled Demons faces the defenders of Laokia.

Reports of Pokemon suddenly becoming visious and attacking, even killing, their trainers have been made. It is believed that it is caused directly by Akuma, who along with Belladonna finds innocent victims with which to enjoy such a sport. The only flaw of this great power of Akuma's is its innability to control Demon, Angel, Marine, or Shadow Pokemon. Trainers are recommended to find and capture one as soon as possible in order to defend themselves should they be targeted.

Professor Tarei has been taken by Belladonna. It is unsure as to whether she lives or is dead, but whichever the case is she is gone. With such a prominent figure as her absent from the Region, the people fall into more of a panic. She was their rallying force, their hope, and with her gone many of the good Laokians fall to the side of evil in their fear, or just give up on trying to save the region. It is up to all who still fight against the evil to save Laokia, and the time draws nearer that the final battle must be fought. And, for the fate of Laokia and Aryll, the defenders must win.

Season Weather Time

Ice types can be found wandering the regions, namely in the North. Flying types have migrated to the South to escape the chill of the Winter. Snow is the most common weather for this type of year, when snow is not falling the sky is filled with clouds, rarely being clear.

Clouds fill the sky, for the most part blocking out the sun. Because of this temperatures are lower than they would normally be. Generally in cloudy weather, Ghost and Dark type Pokemon are more common, while Psychic and Normal types are less common.

The sun has set and the moon has risen, Night lies upon the land. Nocturnal Pokemon are awake and can be spotted throughout the regions. Other Pokemon are, for the most part, sleeping; they are far less likely to be seen. Temperatures drop at night, as does visability.

The trees are spaced so closely together that they allow very little sunlight to get through to the foest floor, even in the Winter when the branches are bare. A base for the nefarious Grim is located here, though it is believed to have been deserted recently. There are also rumors of a clearing that contains a mystical stone, but few have ever seen it.

[ ]Underground Tunnel

The path to Bernar Town is not acessable by the normal path because it is a Restricted Area. No one knows who closed off the area, but travellers must now travel to the Town via the Underground Tunnel. Popular belief is that Professor Tarei herself caused its creation. Unless trainers recieve a Flash HM, they will not be able to see through the pitch black darkness. It is not advised for one to attempt to travel through the tunnel without flash, though it is possible.

Route four connects from the Underground tunnel's exit to Bernar Town. With only a few clusters of trees and a large lake near the center, this route is more of a pasture. [ ]Bernar Town (1 sub-board)

A town of farmers, Bernar Town is surprisingly advanced. Its Pokemon Center has an automated healing machine, as the nurse is usually busy tending to the farm Pokemon, and the Mart is run by a robot Ranger. Many travellers visit here for the farm's goods, and Pokemon trainers come here for the Gym. The Gym leaader is also a farmer, but he has a large diversity in Pokemon. If a trainer defeats him, they will not only get a badge, but also some of the unique products of his farm.

Route Six leads to the foot of Mount Homorgina. A path leads up the mountain, taking travellers to Geo village on the summit, then back down to Runox on the other side. Both the ascent and the descent take a long time, about half a day's walk at least for each. Mount Homorgina is the smallest of three mounains in the Laokia Region. There are also rumors that the summit is home to a mystical stone, though none have seen it.

[ ]Runox (1 sub-board)

Runox is a town located right at the eastern foot of Mount Homorgina. A gym is located in the town, home to a flying-type gym leader. She is also the first female gym leader a trainer would encounter on their journey. The soil here is extremely fertile, so the town has a thriving herbal medicine market. Trainers are advised to stock up on water before continuing east into the desert.

[ ]Kamee Desert

The Kamee Desert is located to the east of Runox and is the longer of the two deserts that travellers will need to cross on their journey from Runox to Gallaville. Temperatures in this desert can reach a scorching 120¢ªF, and the limited shade makes this a very dangerous endeavor. Travellers should dress lightly, but should always keep their head covered, as well as any bare skin unless they are wearing sunblock. Thankfully, there is an Oasis seperating the two deserts and offering a place for recuperation.

Moderators: Professor Tarei, Yuri Hitoehi

[ ]Shia Oasis

The Shia Oasis lies between the Kamee and the Tawnee deserts. It is not a halfway point from Runox to Gallaville, as the Kamee desert is longer than the Tawnee, making it closer to being three-fourths of the distance. It offers a refuge from the scorching sun of the deserts, and is a good place to rest and recuperate after travelling through the dehydrating desert. The water is clean and fresh, perfect to rehydrate after the dry trip to get there. It is not an extremely large area, but it is home to many Pokemon. Also, sometimes rare and even legendary Pokemon visit this area, as it is quite beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing, and for the most part un-tainted by humans.

Moderators: Professor Tarei, Yuri Hitoehi
00
[ ]Tawnee Desert

The Tawnee Desert continues in the eastwarly path from Runox to Gallaville, the last stretch for travellers visiting the large large, if rather quaint, city. Temperatures in this desert begin to cool off from the Kamee desert, reaching a maximum of around 100¢ªF by the time travellers reach the end of it. Of course, temperatures can reach to below freezing at night, just as in the Kamee desert. Travellers should make sure to get enough rest and water at the Oasis before continuing through this desert, as they will find next to none before reaching Gallaville. This desert is smaller than the first, but still a dangerous challenge to cross.

Moderators: Professor Tarei, Yuri Hitoehi

[ ]Gallaville (1 sub-board)

Gallaville is a large city, but a very quaint one. It is more rustic and down-to-earth than most large and profitable cities, and its people are very environmentally concious. There is another gym here, and as one would expect the leader specializes in Grass and Water-type Pokemon. Gallaville is the final city on the north-eastern part of the mainland. Trainers could cross the ocean after visiting this city and make their way through the Laokian Islands. If they wanted to, they could travel all the way around to the western side of the region, the sea route being much quicker than the one over land, but they would likely find the opponents too powerful. This is the easiest way to read Target Island, unless a traveller is willing to go back to Nirven Town and reach it from the port there. There are four islands that are easily accesable from this eastern city, and the best course to reach the rest, and the wisest if one is challenging the gyms or contest halls, is to back-track after exploring all four islands and head to the west.

[ ]Route Seven

Route Seven is filled with rolling hills, dotted with more than a few trees of various varieties. A rather large tree lies in the route's center, providing a home to many Pokemon. In fact, this tree, rumored to be from ancient times, is large enough that fully grown humans and even some of the larger Pokemon can go inside and explore its tunnels.

[ ]Route Eight

A distinct difference from route seven, Route Eight begins after a steep drop-off from the highlands with the hills. A navigable path leads down the steep slopes and into the valley land of the route. A river is said to have once flowed here, but has long since dried up, if it ever exsisted. Another path leads up the side of the mountains, but travellers who choose to explore may find various ruins littered in the valley.

[ ]Mount Linar (1 sub-board)

Mt. Linar is Laokia's second, smaller mountain range. It is dominated by the large volcano, Kuranta. A distinct difference from the snow-capped Homorgina mountain range, the Linar mountains are dry, with a great deal more rocks than vegetation. Dried mgma can be found in great quantities near the volcano, even flowing lava on occasion. Travellers should be extra careful when crossing this terrain, especially if they decide to travel up to the summit of Kuranta.

Moderator: Professor Tarei
00
[ ]Muertos Village

Muertos Village is a decrepit settlement, the very definition of a 'ghost town'. Being so near the mountains and volcano, it is surprising that it still stands, the ruins echoing a once bustling village. However, to say that this place is completely uninhabited would be a lie. Researchers and scientists gather here to study the volcano and the native Pokemon, and those more daring explorers often settle here in the search of adventure. A gym is said to exist here as well, hidden in one of the buildings that are falling apart.

Moderator: Professor Tarei
00
[ ]Cráneo Caverns

Populating the cliffs under Muertos Village, the Cráneo caverns are so named because of the many skulls littering the ground and emedded within their walls. Little is known about the ancient place, and few have dared to venture far into their depths. There are rumors of lost souls wandering the caverns, and even of a curse that is said to befall any who dare enter. Still, navigating through the caverns is the only known way to reach Route Nine, other than flying down the side of the cliff.

Moderator: Professor Tarei
00
[ ]Route Nine

Route Nine is a craggy place, the ground split open in many places. Some of these crevices are also filled with lava, adding to the already prominent danger. One should tread careully when traversing this route, always watching their step. On occassion, the plates deep under the earth crash together or pull apart, making this area even more unstable. Many times this leads to the ground opening up and leaving yet another crevice, but earthquakes are also likely, albeit rarely.

Moderator: Professor Tarei
00
[ ]Oka River

Much like Agerie City, this river is split between pure, clean water and polluted water. The river is amazingly clean and pure upstream, before it runs through the pollution given off by Kuranta. The toxicity of the downstream river is so high that few Pokemon can live there; Poison-types and the incredibly hardy and adaptable Water-types call this place home. More than a few people have found their deaths in the poisoned water. Upstream, however, he water is actually abnormally healthy, home to many Pokemon.

Moderator: Professor Tarei
00
[ ]Route Ten

Covered in ash from the somewhat distant volcano, Route Ten can also be dangerous, but to a lesser extent than Route Nine. Travellers are strongly cautioned to be careful not to breathe in any of the sulfuric ashes, though this can prove difficult with the stuff so thick in the air. Despite the seemingly undesireable conditions, many Pokemon call this area home. They find ample opportunity to hide within the thick ash and the blackened vegetation. The ash can be collected, and blacksmiths within Agerie City can craft them into various items.

Moderator: Professor Tarei

[ ]Agerie City (1 sub-board)

Agerie City is split ino two distinctly different halves, each half having its own gym. The conditions presented by the volcano are the most distinct cause of this split, with one half being filled with pollution, while the other half has been puirified and cleaned by the fresh ocean air. The polluted portion of the city is filled with poverty and crime, while the clean half is rich and stern when it comes to abiding by the rules. The city nearly always seems to be on the brink of war, and more often than not the question isn't IF a war will start, but WHEN.

Dense vegitation of all varieties, a great place to find berries. There is no gym, but there is a small Pokemon Center and Mart near the center of the small island. [ ]Tropica Island

Tropica Island is named so because it is a Tropical Island, covered in palm trees. Though this island does not have a gym, it is a good place to stop on your journey. The mart has many cheaply priced goods and you can find all sorts of berries on bushes. Also there are various species of rarer Pokemon here, and as an added bonus, the chance of finding a shiny is much higher here. You can skip this island all together, but few would want to.

[ ]Isle of Whalesong

This island is famous for the monthly Wailmer and Wailord migration, many of the Pokemon making their home here, their songs echoing in the twilit air everyday. Some rarer Water-types also gather at this nearly whale-shaped island, and a local nurse Joy makes it her job to care for all of them.

A remarkably beautiful island, it is marked by its fruit trees and orchards, on which blossoms appear to be present at all times of the year. However, despite its immense beauty, no people inhabit the islnd, other than a single Nurse Joy who lives on the western beach, away from all the trees and soil. This is easily explained by the island's dark secret, the reason behind the extremely fertile soil.

This island is named because of the cove that is sheltered against the harsh winds that surround it leading to Tsunami island. The cove is also sheltered from the Tsunamis, ridiculously high cliffs protecting the inland from the torrential wind and waves. So named for the frequent Tsunamis hitting it, this land is so ravaged and destroyed that only a few Pokemon live here and only in a few scattered areas are there plant life. All trainers who have managed to get all eight badges never revealed the last Gym Leader's location.

However, during the night the clouds and fog lift, the moon and starlight brightening the island more than any other time. There is no gym, and not even a known pokemart or pokecenter upon this island, mostly because visibility is so low to see when visitors to arrive on the island, and also because most avoid this area.

The first city trainers will visit, and also the first gym. Almost everything in this city is made out of marble, including the gym. The gym is cleverly named the Marble Gym and is where trainers have a chance to win the Marble Badge.

[ ]Cloudy Path

No one knows what this place actually looks like because it is always covered by a thick fog. However, many believe that it goes steadily uphill with a cliff on one side, unnoticed until you go off the edge. Many have ventured in, not many have returned. Proceed with caution.

[ ]Black Cave

Without some soure of light, travellers will find it impossible to see in the darkness of the cave. Black cave leads all the way from the top of the mountain to the bottom, making what would have otherwise been a long journey be merely a short few hour hike. Dark and Poison types can easily be found in the cave.

A small town at the foot of the mountain that does not contain a gym. However, there is a mysterious trainer who wanders around the town. He will battle each trainer one time a day, and regardless of whether the trainer wins or loses, their Pokemon will gain levels. One level for a loss, and two levels for a win.

[ ]Briar Forest

A large forest right on the outskirts of Tikka Village with many Pokemon. It is more of a maze than a forest, but it is pretty simple to navigate through. However, a cannibal is rumoured to hide somewhere deep in the briars, so it is recommended that travellers stay out of them.

[ ]Thorn Bush

A large bush of thorns that spans for over a mile. The thorns are coated in a deadly poison if not treated within two hours of entering the bloodstream, so travellers are cautioned to be careful and quick, and to carry around the antitoxin if they can find it.

[ ]Thorn Bush City

Once exiting maze of thorn bush, travellers find themselves in a rather large city. There are few people that live here, and most of the buidings are deserted, falling apart, and overrun by weeds and vines. A few buildings are still intact and running, though, including the Pokemon Center, Poke Mart, and the gym. If a trainer defeats the gym leader, they will recieve the Thorn Badge.

[ ]Dark Chasm

Next stop on an adventurer's journey after Thorn Bush, is a massive cliff wall. One could attempt to scale it one way or another, but the Murkrow in the area make most if not all attempts futile. The easier route, lies through a path going through a fissure in the cliffs, but watch out for that drop not to far to your right.

[ ]Wetstone River

Half way through the chasm the pit closes off, and one meets what at first can be assumed a dead end. A wide river before them flowing down the next path, water flooding the route from wall to wall. The water runs too quickly for a human or a non-water type pokemon to swim in, and travelers will need a strong water type to carry them across. Even with a water type to carry them over the river though, the whole river filters through a series of caves that branch off in several directions and finding the right path can be tricky.

[ ]Light and Dark Shrines

Two shrines, one for the Lord of darkness/night, Umbreon, and the other for the Lady of light/day, Espeon. They are said to keep the balance in the Laokia region. Light and darkness depend upon each other to survive. Without one, you cannot have the other. Neither is bad or good; they are what they are made to be. Trainers can make a wish to the spirits of the shrines, and it may be granted.

[ ]Science Labratory

This scientific facility studies many aspects of Pokemon. One aspect of which is fossils, and they have a high-tech machine which will quickly restore fossils to the Pokemon they once were. However, this lab is not limited to fossils. They also can fuse two or more Pokemon together, or mutate a Pokemon. Their processes are all humane, the Pokemon are not harmed at all; but, be warned: The Pokemon will come back changed, and not always for the better.

[ ]Graveyard

The graveyard is a place where the people of Laokia and Aryll are buried, the most popular place for burials. People come here to mourn the loss of loved ones or friends, or even of their deceased Pokemon. (Make a post here if your character or their Pokemon has been killed, and you can RP the funeral if you wish; You can also make a thread for the burial of a wild Pokemon that died as well if you wish, and can visit the graves at any time.) Ghost and Dark-type Pokemon can be found here as well, lurking around the graves. One may also find lost souls, wandering the vast yard, lost, and the Pokemon souls may even be able to be captured.
